Description – Acetylcysteine, also known as N-acetylcysteine, is a medication that is used to treat paracetamol overdose, and to loosen thick mucus in individuals with chronic bronchopulmonary disorders like pneumonia and bronchitis. It can be taken intravenously, by mouth, or inhaled as a mist.
Function – “N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) is used by the body to build antioxidants. Antioxidants are vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that protect and repair cells from damage. N-acetyl cysteine is most commonly used by mouth for cough and other lung conditions. “
