Description – Pygeum is obtained from the bark of the African plum tree. Its benefits are thought to come from fatty acids (sterols) that reduce inflammation through the inhibition of prostaglandins, as well as prostatic cholesterol levels that are precursors to testosterone production. Pygeum also increases prostatic and seminal fluid secretions.
Application – Pygeum is used for treating symptoms of enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia, BPH) and prostate cancer. It is also used for pain caused by inflammation, kidney disease, urinary problems, malaria, stomachache, fever, and other conditions.
